WHO IS HOUDYA ?

Houdya, it’s a mix between my first name, my family name, and a way to acknowledge Hip Hop culture – born in the Bronx, NY, in the early 70’s. Houdya is pronounced« Hood – Ya ». While I didn’t grow up in the American inner-city, it’s a way for me to constantly remind myself of Hip Hop’s history; its roots.

I grew up with Gospel, Rhythm & Blues, and Soul in my ears, thanks to my step-mum and dad, I navigate toward those musical genres as well as Hip Hop, the genre that I fell in love with really young.

I rap and I sing, paying close attention to the words I choose to write. Sometimes my music may be social ; sometimes it may be political – but both are a shout, an urge to use and express my words and emotions. My lyrics have specific meanings but it’s up to you, the listener, to decide.

STEP INTO MY UNIVERSE

Houdya it’s also a whole energy that is being fed by so many other Arts, artists, creators, do-it-yourselfers who keep experimenting, over and over again..

Making music, writing ; it’s the intersection of so many influences, a decision that sometimes feels like a non-choice. Having lived abroad several times, interacting with the international dance community and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology… All of this led me to becoming – Houdya.

I see music as a way to combine so many aspects that give me life !
